Monthly Archive for August, 2008Page 2 of 2

This was done as a birthday card for my brother, who lived in the midwest at the time. With acres and acres of corn filling the state, it’s a foregone conclusion that at least one ear (or more? …) would be mutated by cosmic rays and go on a rampage among the humans. Fortunately, the modern-day descendant of an ancient line of cat samurai is on hand to fight for justice.
Or something like that. Gouache on card stock, cut to shape.

This sketch of a cartoon cyclops character is my first entry for Monster Monday. Sketched out and colored in entirely in Photoshop using a Wacom Intuos3 graphics tablet.
Monster Monday is a group sketchblog focused solely on artwork of monsters, creatures, aliens, ghouls, critters, freaks, and abominations. Similar to group sketchblogs like Illustration Friday and Sugar Frosted Goodness, but with an ongoing monster theme. Fun, scary, cute, gross – there’s no limit to the style or approach. The idea is to get artists drawing for fun – and what artist doesn’t like to draw monsters?
Some weeks may be actual themes for contributing artists to explore, but otherwise the only rule is to post a new sketch, doodle, drawing or illustration of a monster.
We’re still setting up shop, so stay tuned.
